MISSIONS
MISSION: D'IBERVILLE
On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast cites of Biloxi, Waveland, and D'Iberville, Mississippi, as well as New Orleans, leaving behind unimaginable destruction and claiming hundreds of lives.
Much of the hurricane relief has been focused on New Orleans and other communities have been forgotten. But New Day has now sent several people to the community of D'Iberville, Mississippi to provide much needed help there.
This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to experience a short term mission trip without leaving the country and to be "Jesus with skin on" to communities in desperate need of assistance.
In cooperation with The D'Iberville Volunteer Foundation, we have been invited to participate again in the continuing effort to repair and restore homes in the community. This will be the final season for the foundation, and we want to be part of helping them "finish the work."
WHEN WILL WE GO?
April 8 - 15, 2008
WHERE WILL WE WORK?
D'Iberville, Mississippi
WHAT WILL WE DO?
We've done a wide range of work in the past, and each trip is different. Since this one is the final push in D'Iberville, there may be more new construction than on previous trips. However, the work we do could include:
- Painting
- Removal of old roofs
- Replacing old plywood sheeting
- Structural repair
- Debris cleanup
- Carpentry work
- Removing/installing drywall
- Electrical work
- Plumbing repairs
More importantly, we will demonstrate the love of Christ to the people we serve. One of the biggest ministries needed is just to listen to people and let them tell their stories.
WHO CAN GO?
Adults and children age 13 and up. If you have some skills, great. If you don't think you have any, don't worry about it! There are plenty of jobs everybody can do.
WHERE WILL WE STAY?
D'Iberville Volunteer Village is situated in a ball field. We will be housed in tents that are spacious and comfortable. Showers and bathroom are available. Three meals a day are provided by the kitchen staff. They provide cots and bedding.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Each member will need to raise their own support of $650. This includes airfare, housing, food and water, van rental, etc. Personal spending money would be extra.
If the thought of finding that much money seems overwhelming, be encouraged: We have yet to see someone NOT go because of funds. New Day can provide help with creative fundraising. And God always provides when he calls someone to a task.
I CAN'T GO, BUT HOW CAN I HELP FINANCIALLY?
If you would like to sponsor an individual team member or offer general financial support, the gifts are tax deductible. Simply make checks payable to "New Day Church," with "Mission Trip" on the memo line. You can also contribute online through the link below.
